Jerry Gourneau becomes the first North Dakotan and the first member of the First Nation people to be named Assiniboia Downs’ Trainer of the Year (Minot Daily News)

Ten years ago, Jerry Gourneau of Belcourt left his job at Turtle Mountain Community High School to become a trainer.  Last weekend, the horses Jerry trained ran in 160 of the 350 races at Assiniboia Downs, with a total of 36 wins in 50 days, earning Jerry the prestigious title of “Trainer of the Year.”

Fargo VFW donates medical-grade recliner chairs to VA (KVRR)

For the last six years, the Fargo VFW had held an adult pinewood derby named “Derby for the Vets.”  This year, the proceeds from the event’s live and silent auction – $7,000, have been donated to the Fargo VA to purchase comfortable chairs for respite.

Lois Johnson’s third-grade class paints bowls for event to end holiday hunger (Williston Herald)

Williston’s first Empty Bowl fundraiser was given a beautiful boost thanks to the creative artistry of a group of third-graders from Williston Trinity Christian School.  The bowls will be for sale at the December 1 soup supper.
