I bet you were just saying to yourself, “Man, I wonder if there is something awesome happening on Saturday, June 1, 2024?  WELL WONDER NO MORE – it’s SMALL TOWN SATURDAY in Climax, North Dakota!

The wonderful Sheila Capistran provided me with some information – check it out, go to Climax (and if you’re with your significant other, be sure to say, “I guess this is where I get off” or “Oh, wow, we’ve reached Climax” when you hit the exit), and have a fantastic time!

How many years have you all been doing Small Town Saturday? This is the 24th year. It came to be after the area farmers were getting done with the spring’s planting, they liked to get together and celebrate. Right in conjunction with that is our Library’s “Summer Learning Experience” which launches for us by getting the kids to lead the Parade (this year with kazoos!) at noon. This fun little town packs three days of a festival into one! Come see!

What would you say is the biggest highlight? For me–the folks gathering for the Parade. Then . . . .there’s a Bike-Hike-Run; a Swap Meet; Petting Zoo; Dan the (smart-alec) Clown; Fire Truck Rides; 4-H Kids Activities; a Vintage Car Show, a Tractor Pull; Bingo;  Dinner and a Talent Show; an evening Bonfire;  and various demonstrations and goings-on.

You serve a lot of food – who does it all?  Various groups–this year: the Boys & Girls Basketball team is doing burgers and dogs; the Sand Hill Settlement Historical Society is doing pizza by the slice; The fabulous Corner Bar and Café is doing a BBQ & potato salad special;  Kim & Judy are offering Popcorn and Lemonade during Bingo; the Climax 4-H Club is hosting a Potato, Meatballs and Gravy Dinner (leading up to the Talent Show!) There are a number of other vendors offering their treats, and we’re lucky to have Ohana Shaved Ice set up next to the kid’s play area! Get in line!
