North Dakota Today | First Lutheran Quilters and Meditation Around Town

Thank you to the wonderful people who work for and watch North Dakota Today – it was a windy morning to talk about a Watford City quilting group spreading good cheer (and warmth!) around the community and a free program in the Fargo area for people seeking a bit more inner peace.

And a bit more from the First Lutheran Quilters, in their own words:

Per Lutheran World Relief recommendations, the quilts are usually 60” wide and 80” long. Some ladies assemble tops at home. At the church, these tops are put together with a back and a middle, the backing turned up to form a binding and then tied to secure the layers. After tying, the binding is machine sewn in place. Depending on which ladies come on a given Monday, squares are also cut to be assembled later. The average number of ladies each week is about 8. The fun starts at 1 PM almost every Monday, all year round, and ends about 2:30 with, you guessed it, coffee and goodies. The quilting ladies are grateful for donated materials and money. Regular woven cotton or cotton/polyester blends work best for tops. Larger pieces can be put together for backs. Sheets also work well for backs. Knitting worsted weight acrylic yarn is used for tying. The ladies do their best to make good use of all donations.

I hope you enjoy this week’s North Dakota Today segment, which you can watch by clicking the image below. Have a great week!
