Thank you to the beautiful people who work at and watch North Dakota Today – it was a lovely morning to talk about a new pollinator garden (and Monarch waystation!) and high school students cleaning up the community.
Before we get to the video link, a couple of things: McKenzie County Schools will be doing the next Community Cleanup in April or May. Follow the District on Facebook to learn all about it!
I’m pretty sure I told my stories in the wrong order this morning so we didn’t have a chance to show off the photos from Bonnie’s Pollinator Patch, so here they are now – but first, their descriptions:
- Bare garden plot –rototilled and prepared for planting
- Mulch path complete and perennial seeds scattered
- Everything growing and milkweed transplanted from McLean County
- Butterfly ‘puddler’ (water with rocks, sand, and a pinch of salt to provide necessary minerals)
- Mid-summer after much thinning to give lower plants more sun and room to grow
- Fall- everything cut back but leaving cover for butterflies that over-winter
- Waystation signage
