California artist returns to North Dakota for fourth year to complete latest mural (Dickinson Press)

Artist Guillermo Avalos has painted murals for the Dickinson Fire Department, Best Friends Mentoring, and the city of Hurdsfield – and is back to design a 400′ installation in and around an underpass in Dickinson.  Guillermo will be assisted by area school children and college students.  If you want to help paint the mural, click here.

Hundreds of Spirit Lake students and supporters walk for the prevention of suicide (Devils Lake Journal)

In honor of September’s Suicide Prevention Month, Alice Bird Horse-Thompson, director for Native Connections, organized a youth walk to combat suicide.  Native Connections is paid for by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA) grant to help children develop methods for coping and wellness, and has a number of events upcoming over the next few months.

Over 300 North Dakotans connect to new addiction program in its first week (Grand Forks Herald)

Addiction Policy Forum, a national addiction non-profit, has expanded its Addiction Resource Center to North Dakota.  The Resource Center includes an interactive website and a resource line to connect North Dakotans to addiction counselors, licensed social workers, and local treatment and education services.  North Dakotans can call 1-833-301-4357 Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm to access the resource line.
