Almost everything you need to now about Norsk Hostfest

It’s “Pure Scandimonium” this weekend as Norsk Hostfest 2018 polkas its way onto the North Dakota State Fairgrounds from September 26-29.  Now in its 41st year, thousands of people (including Michael Bolton!) will descend upon Minot to celebrate North America’s largest Scandinavian festival.  From the festival website:

Norsk Høstfest celebrates Scandinavian culture and heritage of the five Nordic countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.  Each nation is represented in one of the halls in which the festival takes place, and each named after their country’s capital city.  The individual styles of each country’s entertainment, food, clothes, art, and jewelry can be found throughout Norsk Høstfest and also in the Scandinavian Heritage Park, the only park in the world representing all five Nordic countries.

It’s best seen to be believed, but in the meantime, here is a sampling of the news surrounding Norsk Hostfest:

• Norsk Hostfest kicks off – or skis in, rather – every year with a trip to Sondre Norheim’s grave (KFYR TV)

• There are too many activities to list at this year’s festival, but the Minot Daily News did their best to summarize it (Minot Daily News)

• This is volunteer Duane Aase’s 41st year helping out at Hostfest (Bismarck Tribune)

• Myron Thompson, Ingebretsen’s Nordic Marketplace, and Daniel O’Donnell will be inducted into the Scandinavian-American Hall of Fame at Hostfest (KFYR TV)

• Scandinavian folk art classes will be available to grown-ups at enrolled in Hostfest University at the festival (Minot Daily News)

• And finally, the Minot Dance Institute previewed their performance for the residents at Trinity Homes. You can see the dancers every day at Hostfest at 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm. (KFYR TV)
